Favorite Author Prezi

As an elementary teacher and aunt, I read many children's books.  The following link is a Prezi presentation on my favorite author, Claudia Mills.

Prezi is a presentation software that allows users to create and store presentations online.  This may be an interesting way to give a presentation to a class and I invite you to explore the free site and membership.  The tutorial is very helpful, but I can help you if you have questions.

Staff Change

As you know, we've had several changes in staff recently (and more are yet to come). We were sad to see students leave, but we should be excited about the new faces joining us.  Our newest student is Chase, a freshman. His first day was Monday; please introduce yourself and assist him with our procedures/routines and any questions he may have.

Also, this week, I will be taking pictures of students working on Moodle assignments and our storybook in the lab to post to this blog.  I know we are working on using different programs for our storybook, but you should also be focused on learning to assign roles in Moodle.  There are always issues with adding students to courses at the beginning of the quarter and the next one is just around the quarter.

Make sure to watch the training videos and keep checking in to see new information.

Blog Movie

This video is similar to the one we will make for our storybook.  I will post a link to our story on the blog when the project has been completed.  We will use Paint, Photo Shop, Word, and Photo Story to complete our project.

UPDATE:  This is the link to our story about Henry the city chicken: Our Story

Learning to Blog

Well, I am excited.  I was visiting some of the other ECT 510 blogs, and I saw that Hilary's blog had tabs for multiple pages.  I thought it was a really cute idea to have a page for books the class had read, and I decided that I would try to make my own pages for other information on my blog.  It took me about seven minutes to discover how to get the new page to show.  I'm happy to say it is now available.  There is a page for happenings in our computer lab, training videos, and ideas for teachers.

Hello Readers,

This blog was created as part of a course assignment.  I have never blogged before, but I look forward to learning how to use this tool.

My name is Devin.  I am certified to teach grades 1-5 in Louisiana, but I have not yet had a classroom of my own.  I am in grad school to obtain a Masters of Education, Curriculum, and Instruction with a technology focus.   I am currently looking for teaching position (near Monroe if possible) and am excited to start teaching young children.  In my spare time I like to read, cook, paint, craft, and idea search on pinterest.com.

My blog will focus on how I am creating resources and teaching students to provide technical support for the university students, faculty, and staff.  I am the only remaining graduate assistant (GA) in my department, the Center for Instructional Technology (CIT).  CIT provides the university with technical support for several areas but mainly focuses on Moodle, Smart Classrooms, and Compressed Video Conferences.  It is extremely important that I help the students at CIT learn how to use and manage these technologies, and develop resources for new GAs or student workers, so the university will have support and helpful resources when I and other knowledgeable workers graduate in May.  Students will check this blog to see what we are focusing on during the week; students hours in the lab range from 3-10 hours a week (some only work 1 day a week) so there are many different skill levels at CIT.  This blog will help students learn new skills and remind them of projects they need to complete.
