Training

I know everyone is getting excited because the quarter is coming to an end, but remember we still need to focus on training.  We will have a new GA, Sophya, starting May 1st.  Make her feel welcome and help her get to know our routines.  You will be asked to show her how to answer the phones, make copies, work smart classroom equipment, make CVC connections, and basic Moodle tips.  This is a great refresher for all of us.  Helping her will help you remember what you have learned (you don't want brain-drain to take it all away during summer).  Please look over your Moodle training manuals/guides or view them on our website here.  Next week we will have an assignment to upload files to Moodle and add grade items to the Moodle gradebook; videos are in production now.  Be sure to ask questions if you need assistance and remember to check the blog.

Celebration

This week has been Student Worker Appreciation Week.  I hope everyone will be able to attend the celebration today in our conference room from 11:30-1:00.  There will be sandwiches, chips, and fun!

Also, remember when you help a faculty member with an issue you must date the entry and sign your initials. If there are questions about an issue we need to know whom to ask.   You have all worked hard to learn your new Moodle skills; I've seen more of you taking on challenges and helping student callers with login and assignment troubles, great job!  Also, thank you, Chad for helping Ken and Harley make CVC connections for the morning classes.

Content Vodcast

As you know, CIT workers are expected to help university faculty and students with Moodle issues.  You have all been working very hard to get familiar with Moodle and I have attached a new video to expand you Moodle knowledge. The video below will help you add users to Moodle courses. Please view the video and complete the assignment (at the end of the video).  My apologies for the narration (I have been sick).

Updated Prezi

The author presentation has been updated to include a book review; the link is below.

The old link will work just as well.

Favorite Author Prezi

As an elementary teacher and aunt, I read many children's books.  The following link is a Prezi presentation on my favorite author, Claudia Mills.

Prezi is a presentation software that allows users to create and store presentations online.  This may be an interesting way to give a presentation to a class and I invite you to explore the free site and membership.  The tutorial is very helpful, but I can help you if you have questions.

Staff Change

As you know, we've had several changes in staff recently (and more are yet to come). We were sad to see students leave, but we should be excited about the new faces joining us.  Our newest student is Chase, a freshman. His first day was Monday; please introduce yourself and assist him with our procedures/routines and any questions he may have.

Also, this week, I will be taking pictures of students working on Moodle assignments and our storybook in the lab to post to this blog.  I know we are working on using different programs for our storybook, but you should also be focused on learning to assign roles in Moodle.  There are always issues with adding students to courses at the beginning of the quarter and the next one is just around the quarter.

Make sure to watch the training videos and keep checking in to see new information.

Blog Movie

This video is similar to the one we will make for our storybook.  I will post a link to our story on the blog when the project has been completed.  We will use Paint, Photo Shop, Word, and Photo Story to complete our project.

UPDATE:  This is the link to our story about Henry the city chicken: Our Story
